FAQ

Q: I am concerned about my child's development, what should I do?

A:

If you think your child might not be meeting appropriate developmental milestones, first contact your Pediatrician. You can also contact the state to make a request for an evaluation and/or therapy services.

If your child is under 3, contact AzEIP at http://www.azdes.gov/azeip/ and click on ‘referrals'.
If your child is 3 or older contact DDD at http://www.azdes.gov/DDD/ and click on ‘eligibility/make a referral'.

Q: Who qualifies for state funded services?
A: AzEIP and DDD are separate programs, each having its own unique requirements for qualification. To learn more about the specific criteria for the AzEIP program, use the link above and click on ‘questions and answers'. For DDD criteria use the above link and click on ‘eligibility/make a referral'.

Q: Who will pay for my child's services?

A:

If your child is deemed eligible through AzEIP or DDD then the state will pay for 100% of your therapy services. If you have private insurance (Aetna, CIGNA, BCBS, etc.), the state requires the therapy company to bill your insurance prior to receiving state funding. If your child is not eligible for state funded therapy services, you have the option to pay through private insurance and/or self pay.

Q: How often will my child receive services and how long will he/she need services?

A:

The frequency and duration of services is determined by the therapist who evaluates and/or provides ongoing treatment for your child. Your therapist will base this decision on many factors, some of which may include: standardized test results, behavioral/skill observations, parent concerns, and clinical judgment.

Q: Where are therapy services provided?

A:

The two most common places therapy is provided are:

1) In your home, also referred to as home-based therapy

2) In an outpatient facility, also referred to as center-based therapy.

If your child receives home-based therapy, the therapist will come to your home, whereas center-based therapy requires you to travel to see the therapist. Therapy services may also be provided in the community, day care, or in the school when appropriate.
